Are there any differences between an American, Mexican, Japanese, Indonesian, Chinese, etc. Fender bass bridge? I don't mean the fancy high mass boutique bridges. I am just referring to the plain old boring bent "L" shape bridge with single groove saddle (not the threaded rod saddle).
They all are different. Different materials, quality, string spacing, saddles and etc. The only common thing they share is mechanics and construction - they work and are adjusted the same way: two screws for action height, one for the intonation. And 5 screws for the mounting.
Is there a way to tell the difference? I have a bunch of bridges in my parts drawer and I would like to identify them.
Hello from a newbie....! These Fender bridges use 3 mounting holes, and 4 string-thru holes (or can be top loaded). I think they have a more "deluxe" version of this one too, which is used recently, then a "high mass" version as well. The one I've got is all steel, the high-mass one is a zinc casting (from memory). If any one has that 3 hole bridge on their Jazz Bass, I'd love to know the distance between the end of the neck pocket and the "mounting holes", as I'm in the middle of dealing with putting a home build together. And, FWIW, I had that bridge on an early 2000's Jazz Bass, and I really like it, which is why I went with it for the current project.
