Different String spacings

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by blackreverend, May 10, 2006.

  1. Hey all,
    Checking out a new bass, and was wondering; for my future reference, could people who know list as many string spacing for as many brands of bass as they could, specifically 5 and 6 strings-

    such as-
    Lakland
    Ken Smith
    Roscoe
    Modulus
    Fender 5's
    etc.

    This is because I don't know what 19mm spacing feels like, but I know what a Modulus feels like, so it would help me relate.

    Thanks,
    Blackreverend

  2. hello?

  3. 19mm spacing is the standard for 4s. 5ers and 6ers generally are between 16.5-19mm spacing. Some have 20mm spacing, but that is rare. The only company I know that does that is Warwick (on their widenecks).

  4. Ken Smith 18mm
    Modulus 17mm

    Aside from going to the manufacturer websites and getting the information immediately, here are the ones I know:

    F Bass - 19mm (4's, 5's, 6's)
    Sadowsky - 19mm (4's, 5's)
    Valenti - 19mm (when using Hipshot "B" bridge)
    Zon - 19mm (4's, and the 5-string 519 model), 17mm (5's), 16.5mm (6's)
    Modulus - 19mm (4's), 17mm (5's and 6's), 22.25mm (Wide 5-string)

    For MTDs...

    435/535/Z4/Z5/Saratoga/Heir/Kingston = 19mm
    635 = 18mm
    735 = 16mm

  7. Lakland fivers are 19mm.

    Steinberger narrow 5s are something like 15 or 16mm.

  9. Stingray 5 = 17.5 mm.

    I don't know how relevant this is nowadays but my old Tobias Toby Deluxe 5 (from the first MusicYo era) had 16 mm.
