Just picked up this beauty. She's a vintage (probably 70's) Pearl Jazz bass. Appears to have the 70's pickup spacing too. I've read that these were MIJ. {} {} {} {} {}
Cool!! Yup, Pearl, and Tama, both drum companies used to make guitars. Hyundai, the car company did for a while too.
That is really, really nice! Very pearly. Gimme, gimme! Unique, good-sounding, a beauty---can't ask for more with it. Probably better than a Fender of the same year and a couple others too!
Funny, I saw a Starcaster branded drum kit the other day. Probably made by another company sold under FMIC's name. Entry level thing, like the Starcaster brand.
That JB looks very well kept for an instrument that is likely 40 years of age. Congrats. I've never owned a Pearl bass, but had their Les Paul copy at one time, pretty decent piece all-in-all that one was.
{} Best Vintage Guitars - Pearl Export Genesis Bass Pearl also made a sort of copy of the Epiphone Genesis bass (different headstock, that's all).
I remember them, and I had a chance to try one out in the local music store back in the early 70's. I remember the only issue was weak pickups when compared to a Fender jazz. I was told at the time Olympic brand was also from Pearl which was absolutely a low budget no quality instrument, my local store had many on the floor in the beginners section. This one they put their logo on was their step up to the plate to bring a quality instrument into the game, but again the pickups should have been better. Anyway someone saved you the time and money and switched them out for you. Congrats I would love to hear it someday. RTS
Only thing bit uncertain about is whether or not I can get used to the very tight spacing by the nut. It's probably around 1.45" to 1.48". Ala Geddy Lee.... {}
