    saw this digi tech in musicians friend for $150 I'm wondering if it's worth it

    It's the BP-200 Bass Modeling Processor. I use one myself; I like the EQ and effects features (although dedicated pedals are nicer). Lots of features and programmable, too.

    I wouldn't waste any money on effects (especially multi-FX) until I had a good amp and cabs. If the effects cuts into your basic rig budget, you're going to sound like crap, effects or not.

    That's exactly what I don't have for now, a good amp and cabs. I found (online) an owner's manual for a TNT-130 with some recommended EQ settings, tried them out, and so far so good. I try not to overdo it on the chorus, but right now I'm getting a clean funk sound, even from a Peavey!
