got a line on a IV @ $70 locally while a search reveals some luv in the past for bass use I'd like to know if they've been rendered pointless by recent options or remain viable for more than quirky fun at this price. I'm mostly interested in the lower octave aspects. thanx!
I ditched mine for the new bass whammy. Better tracking, true bypass (which it REALLY needs, iv is a tone sucker) and the return of some of the old bass whammy sounds Justin Chancellor uses, which is my main reason for grabbing one.
It'll work but the new V and new Bass Whammy are way, way better. Last time I saw a board pic of his, there was a new Bass Whammy on it
tbh Eventide Pitchfactor kicked the two v4s off the board some ten years ago. There are plenty of better options now (and plenty of worse ones too) - just sayin $70 is a really good deal for a working v4.
Ive owned both. A guitarist friend actually gave me his 4 for free thinking it was broken. Just needed to be calibrated. I liked the tone and tracking of the new bass whammy more but the preferred the footswitch on the 4. The bass whammy had an annoying audible pop when I turned it on. If I bought another whammy I'd go for the ricochet because i sucked at using the rocker.
considering such reasonable prices on the new units (of which none came up in a morning of research...) I'm glad I asked, the help is much appreciated. that $70 will go a long ways towards a choice far more usable and inspiring. salud, gentlemen!
pt 2 the DigiTech BP355 @ $150 while I don't envision paying over $100, this device showed up locally and has some grindy / octavish sounds I can use to get my Felix on in a more exact Mountainous flavor. are there issues I should be aware of? I'm dbl. posting in my Felix thread to reach those who replied.
Honestly for $70 just get the 4 it'll work fine, not as good as the new stuff but the 4 was state of the art once and it doesn't degrade in quality.
