Dilemma about Creed's New CD

While I like at least one song on the new Creed CD, I am torn about buying it, because I have this real hang up about the band's attitude toward bass players.

So what would you folks do in a similar case? I feel by buying the CD, I am lending tacet approval to their "bass players as second class citizens" behavior.

On the other hand, if I like the music, it seems just plain dumb to hold a grudge against them for their anti-bass player mentality and therefore I might as well buy the record.

Also, if I don't buy the new CD, they won't know why, so I should e-mail their web site or something and state that their predjudice against bass players is keeping me from buying their record.

But if I do that, they will think I am nuts for sure and they don't care what I think anyway. All they really want is my money (and for me to worship them.)

What do you guys do when you like a band's music, but there is something about the band you don't care for?

  2. For me it's about the music. You don't have to like their opinions or even lifestyles for that matter. I'm listening to the new 1 now and I love it. Bullets is a great tune, lullaby is the only weak track on the thing IMO.

I think that you people take being a bassist way too seriously.

Please explain what the attitude is, with examples. I already despise them so this will add fuel to the fire really, but my advice - Don't support something you can't believe in.

edit: I'm sure I have cd's by people with bad attitudes and lousy lyrics, but if it bugs you enough to post it here, I say skip it.

If trying to decide whether or not to buy a CD gives you an ulcer, I hope there are no other issues in your life.

Although Creed is the only band that I really dislike, you have to listen to what sounds good to your ears. As far as I'm concerned you may as well buy the record because (I hope) this might be their last one they put out. Think of it as an investment :D

  7. Is it just me or is their new single "my sacrifice" sounds like their songs "one" and "higher" forged into one song with different lyrics?

is it just me or do ?all their songs sound the same?

i really hate creed...the singer couldnt be more impressed with himself, the music sucks, the lyrics are just obnoxious and cliche...blech

  9. I listen to Cannibal Corpse in my car a lot (!). My friends say all their songs sound the same. I beg to differ. That is just their style.

I feel that saying a bands songs are the same is pigeon-holing a decent band. I hate Blur and Gorrilaz, but I dont go around saying they are crap and I hate them, I just dont listen to them.

  10. I wouldnt buy it, even if I did like the music (which I dont, its all been done before and done better), because Creed are a bunch of morons. The bassist was the only cool one.

People, why waste your money on these guys, why dont you just get the original and the best? Get some Pearl Jam, or Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains, they are the real deal, its not a gamble, you are guarenteed time tested quality, and they are probably cheaper.

WE CAN SIT HERE ALL DAY AN ARGUE ABOUT WHAT MUSIC IS GOOD AND THE FACT IS ITS AN OPINION QUESTION THAT HAS NO ANSWER AND THEIR WILL ALWAYS BE PEOPLE WHO LIKE AND DON'T LIKE A CERTAIN BAND. I DON'T LIKE CREED BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY SUCK. I THINK MOST PEOPLE ARE SO CAUGHT UP IN THEY LIKE THEY DON'T GIVE OTHER TYPES OF MUSIC A CHANCE.

    ITS ALL GOOD

  12. I agree, but I have given them a chance, and own their first two albums. I just dont hear anything special, they havnt done anything that hasnt been done before.

  15. The Music Suck's? what!? Common seriously? where are you right now? can you write better songs? are you a better musician? If you think you are how do you know for sure? do you know them personally? do you know what the play in their spare time?

The songs sound the same? no similar maybe but I bet at least two of your songs sound similar as well.

yeah creed are I bit up themselves but rightfully so, they've sold how many album's? around 10 million. I would be pretty proud of my self also.

This is to everyone- Most of all I would like to say "if your going to bag out a band, for god's sake justify your answers, or else your the one who's comming off as the loser.

"At least it's better than Rap metal, eg Limp Bizkit, likin park, crasy town etc..."

  16. At least one person agrees with me! :)

  17. well...i dont really like creed. One that got me mad (my bro told me this, so i dunno if itz 100% true) was once he was watchin pop up video, and they played higher. He always likes to see what they put, so he continue on watching. They had on one, that they had to reshoot the video just because there wasn't enough shots of him looking like jesus. I think some of creeds music is OK though. Some of the earlier stuff (before human clay) (what if i like).

I agree with JrTheBassguy. All these bands are saying now-a-days. "We dont wanna make a cd thats the same as the first." and i always thought...why not? but then creed came out with this one...and now i know why bands want to mix it up a little. i mean, ill still listen to them. But i mean, i get sick of it all being the same. singer looking like hes going to marry himself, mark always looking at stapp, as if somthings going on...ya, you know what im talking about.

Theres lots of bands who I hate but like there music. I hate Eddy Vedder with a passion, but I still think Pearl Jam plays great music. The solution is instead of buying a cd and giving someone you hate your money, download the mp3s, that way you get to listen to the music and screw the band at the same time!

Just never download local music!!! That is cheap!

P.S. I don't think the guy asked if you liked creed or not, bashing creed isn't going to answer his question. People are to opinionated.

To answer the main question: I probably woudnt buy a cd if I liked the music but hated their attitude or what not, if it was a band of hardcore racists that made amazing music, not puting that racism in the music, but in their interviews and the sort, I would never buy that cd. Same with Creed, if I liked their music (which I do not) I would never buy their stuff. I feel that the singer is way to stuck up, and that he has the attitude that if your not a christian your stupid.

Ive always wondered why VH1 had a Behind the Music of Creed so early in their career, I think its cause VH1 knows that theyre gonna be gone in hmmmm...a month or two.
