DiMarzio Model P and J (DP126 set) - 250k or 500k pots?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by jcburn, Oct 27, 2018.

  1. What's everyone's opinion? Mine are hooked up with 250k pots and I find the low end is a little muddy and uncontrolled. How would 500k pots sound?

For reference I'm a rock player and play with a pick. I like brightish, grindy tones with a hint of overdrive, but still like plenty of low mid punch.

I've soldered the P directly onto the jack before and I thought it sounded exactly the same as it did hooked up to 250k pots. A big low end is the hallmark of that set.

  3. You can try 500K Ohm pots & if that doesn't work you can try wiring each pickup in parallel.

I'd make you play an 800rb cranked up, hit the 3 cut switches on the left side to test a theory out, then spin the mid controls to confirm a suspicion.
