I'm using a GSR200, and as a possible future enhancement I'd like to change out the pickups. They're pretty good for their price, but they can hum something aweful at times. However, I'd like to keep the stock ibanez pre-amp.

I've heard good things about Dimarzios. How close to the originals do you think they sound? Also, is the humcancelling on the pickups as effective as I've been led to believe?

Also, what are the other possible causes for the hum? Bad shielding? Wiring? I'm relunctant to do much other modding to this bass (actually, I'd rather just save up for another bass.)

Do a search in this forum for "Dimento" or "Dimentos" as TBer luknfur has done a couple of threads comparing pickups including these, iirc in a GSR200.
I have no idea how they'll sound in your axe, but I like the DM's.

I've read that thread, and while it's certainly relevant, my question was a bit more specific, involving the humming of my electronics as a whole.

  5. Use the search feature for hum and shielding keywords. Much has been written.

Seek out "guitarnuts" on the web. He details shielding in-depth.
