DiMarzio Ultra Jazz & J retro

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Funkmeister, Aug 9, 2002.

  1. Hi everyone.

I want to upgrade my jazz bass and am wondering if anyone out there is running the DiMarzio U/Jazz p/ups with the J retro?

    Any thoughts ...

got those in my '70 USA custom repro bass.

awesome low end "umph" and thump, and great for slap. the pickups themselves have lots of airy highs, good dallop of low mids for definition and growl, and a huge low end. but all in all, its a more a clean sound with lots of headroom. With the JRetro and set flat, the mids can feel a little sucked out, but with the sweepable mids knob, you can bring them back for that growlly edge.

my fav fav setup for jbasses and the quietest i've used. dead silent. i have to jack up the trebles to near max for any hiss. but, i love how the JRetro's add a nice open feel with its treble knob and boost that isnt harsh or overly sizzly. after using it, i've realized how harsh the treble knob my Mike Lull jbass Bart preamp can sound.
