I saw Incubus on the Billboard Awards show last night and Dirk was playing a red Fender Jazz. I said to myself, "Hey, where's the Warwick?", but other than that, I didn't think anything of it. Today I get a call from Warwick asking me if I'd seen it, and I said that I had, but didn't see a problem. Then they told me that he'd signed an EXCLUSIVE deal. Now I do see the problem. Oh well.
OH I MISSED THAT SHOW! *Kicking myself* Maybe the bass didn't arrived... i have seen many "Behind the scenes" of some of these shows and all kind of things happens (clothes missing, people missing, etc)... maybe someone just handed that Jazz bass on a last minute...dunno...
Dirk Lance playing a FENDER? I love Fenders much more than Warwicks, but I would expect to see Dirk with a Jazz Bass about as much as I would expect to see Flea with a 7-string.
That would have been a VINTAGE fender Jazz. No one handed it last minute. When I saw them recently in the States he used that one in a gig for a couple of songs as well as his SS IIs. I mean come on, its a vintage so second hand. Plus, Im sure Warwick wont be THAT bothered. And so what if he does. What they gonna do? Take his basses bacl. Incubus has sold millions of records. I'm sure he could afford to buy himself whatever he damn well wanted. sim
I think you should look into the term "exclusive contract". I don't think it's the end of the world, or anything like that, but they do have every right to be upset. As for the red J bass, it looked like a vintage piece, probably mid to late '70's. It looked battle scarred.
Since were on the topic of Warwicks, and bass players who used them in the past, and switched brands. Anyone know why Stefan switched from Warwick to Modulus?
I was told by Modulus, that he wanted to pull away from the "woody" tones. Also, he was in bed with Modulus for a while, and he decide to just go with them full time.
Ok, so what will happen, essentially? Is an exclusive endorsment deal legally binding? Will they just stop giving him free basses? Or whatever discount he had? Do you get paid for this sort of thing? I wish I had an exclusive deal with Warwick... EDIT: Post 1000... um, hooray, and stuff...
has anyone been taken to court for breaking an exclusive bass/guitar endorsement deal? maybe Warwick will just threaten to take their free basses back if he breaks the terms again.
He used the same Jazz bass on Leno last week too... I was as surprised as anyone. At first I thought that Warwick might be making a Jazz bass now, I mean, everyone else does... until I got a better look at it.
For those of you wondering Sir Lance is using a Standard Streamer in the "I wish you were here" video. Here is why http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1491841100 Go to that site. Its a charity thing with Warwick and Dana B. Goods (US distributor). All five members of incubus signed it and is up for auction. At last check it was bidded at !!! $5100 !!!. wish i had that much cash. I wish i could meet him, sigh. Ah well. WHAT A NICE GUY!! sim
Well i guess it´s ok for dirk to play fenders at regular gigs... but playing it in front of millions at a televised event... dunno... :S
I saw that show too. I forget what songs he was playing with it, but it sounded good. I think he played "Drive" with that red bass. Maybe Dirk will get an endorsement deal with Fender! That would be cool.
