Dirk Lance from Incubus

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by Fleaismyhero, Nov 25, 2001.

  1. He really is an awesome bass player, on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. he kinda had a wierd hard rock/funk/jazz thing going on, and Battlestar Scratchlactica has a really good bass line. what do ya'll think about him?

  2. He's good, but he's also discussed a lot. (Search)

  4. You know guys, by bitching about how a thread has been done countless times, you're just bumping it up to the top again.

Anywho, I like Dirk a lot. He seems to have mellowed out a lot on the album, which isn't always a bad thing.

  5. I bought their new album after watching them perform on MTV2. its rare to see a rock band so tight and sound so good live these days. this is the only album I have from them, so I think I will get some more after I wear this one out.

I thought Dirk did a great job holding down the low end and offering lots of support for the band. I also liked the tone he was gettin outa his streamer 5, the J bass was quite nice too.

The only CD I have of them is Make Yourself. I really like it. All the songs on it are good, except for the last one is kinda lame and number 11 is a little boring (or maybe its good and Im just remembering it wrong)

Anyway, its a good CD to have. You can put it on track 1 and just let it play the whole way through without having to skip around a lot. Its very listenable.

  7. A MEEEEEELION threads (roughly) have been about my fave bassist (Dirk, real name Alex Katunich, Dirk Lance is his Porn* alias). He might have mellowed but that makes him that little more boring and a little more average IMO. I lurve his work on their first 3 recordings and Make Yourself has some superb rock bass on it. But the new album although good is not really incubus is it, and Dirk isnt quite DIrk is he. BUt thats just my opinion, im going to see them live in the New YEar and i cant wait.

Did i hear he is using some sort of Vintage Jazz bass???

Guys, check out 'Fungus Amongus' and 'Enjoy Incubus'. Dirk is constantly ripping out some phat lines... that's when he played a million notes per minute.:D

'You will be a hot dancer!', 'Hilikus', 'Azwethinkweiz', just to name a few. The 'Enjoy Incubus' was their 7-track major label release/demo were they took all its songs from 'Fungus Amongus'.

Enjoy Incubus sure is a great album, not just because of the bass playing. My fav songs on EI are You will be a hot dancer, Version and Azwethinkweiz although they are all great.:)
