I was hoping I could get some advice/input with this one. I'm looking at picking up an Ampeg SVT II (or pro) very soon, unless I find another tube amp (other than PJB (hehehe)) that turns my head just right. I was thinkin about this though. What do you guys think about usin' a more "rock" oriented, tube bass head, for the purposes of...well....dirt, volume...all that good tube head stuff....but using something more hi-fi in the preamp out/poweramp in....ie: alembic, eden...etc. etc. nice hifi pre with a dirty loud power section. thoughts?

Mesa 400+, Eden VT-300, Traynor YBA-200 come to mind, and the old Trace tube heads sound good too.
