DI's Purpose?

Discussion in 'Recording Gear and Equipment [BG]' started by funkysurfer, Jun 19, 2001.

  1. Are these used to get the true sound of your bass, eliminating the use of an amp?
Also, if you plug your active bass into a recording device, (ex: Tascam Portastudio in my case), will you also get the true sound of your bass.

Bass is very hard to mic, I think because of wave length, so people use DI's. Basses also don't seem to suffer as much as other instruments which need the mic to get their natural sound. I have an old porta studio, the mic pre-amps are not so good.
-not the worst actually, but, you won't get the "true" sound exactly.
