Disconnecting Pickups

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by John Deppel, Jun 27, 2004.

  1. I searched to see if anyone has posted this before, and didn't see anything, so..

I currently have a bass that is basically a P-Bass Special Knockoff. I'm curious to find out if anyone has ever diconnected the P-pup and just left the J connected. I've heard of people disconnecting the J before, but not the P. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what kind of sound I could expect...would it be anything close to a J-Bass?

I'd just go ahead and disconnect it just to try it out, but I'd rather not have to remove my pickguard, etc.. only to find out that the sound I'd get would completely disgust me...

Thanks for any help anyone may be able to offer...:bassist:
