I am curious to know everyone's thoughts on rare and discontinued colors for popular basses.

Would anyone here at Talkbass ever consider paying a premium for a discontinued bass color, even if the model is still in production, and is mass produced (for example a mexican P Bass)?

Strange question, I know but I recently bought a used car and was amazed to see how much color affects resale value. All things equal, black and silver cars get top dollar, and greens, blues, etc. are much harder to sell. Just wondering if that weighs in to the decision process for buying a second hand bass.

I wouldnt pay a lot more but i would pay a little more. This is true even if the color isnt discontinued, but if i like that color a LOT, ill pay a little more for it.

With Fender they simply made less custom color basses.
So value is due to rarity.
I have only seen one 1960's Burgandy Mist Percision bass in person.
    Maybe a hundred sunburst ones.

    Ooh, ooh, burgundy mist...DROOL

I'd pay a small premium for a cool color.

I'd pay a bit more, but I doubt that a rare color would make or break a deal for me. How about some pics? :D

I saw a great brown vintage p-bass (i don't know whether it's original or refinished) on e-bay recentley. If I had the extra money, I would have paid a little more for it.
  9. I would pay a little more for a color I like.

I'm just going to smugly say "Blue Dawn Stingray". One or two others will probably equally smugly say "Burnt Apple".

  11. Thats pretty cool..i wanted one too..i enquired around about it around here..unfortunately only available at GC. And there is no GC in Canada :(
  12. And to keep the thread going ill awnser yes...i would have no problems paying a little extra for the colours i truely want on the product i want.
