James Brown is the funkiest man in the multiverse.
  3. RHCP doesn't really strike me as a funk band, but if you want some funky stuff, Turock is right, you gotta go to JB. The box set Star Time is a good one, and so is Live at the Apollo. You also oughta check out the Meters, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Tower of Power, just for starters, or maybe some old Sly or Brothers Johnson. And I love Verdine White's playing for Earth Wind & Fire; though they weren't really a Funk band, he played plenty funky.

I think Me'Shell NdegeOcello is pretty funky too.

Darn it, when you said "new", I thought you meant unsigned new bands.

At any rate, check out these guys. They're called "Funklogic" and they're pretty rockin', I mean funkin', and I'm not just saying it because they're my friends either.:D

  5. If you like RHCP, you'd probably like early Incubus (check out "Fungus Amongus"), Dirk Lance is a good bassist as well.

If you want real funk, check out Sly & The Family Stone, its all good.

  9. Cut to the chase and go buy The Best of The Meters. It all starts there in my opinion.
