i need overdrive tone, and my solid state combo dosn't provide much. but, if i run a overdrive box, will it kill my tweeter? can I avoid this?

It won't kill the tweeter but you'll probably find the distortion tone very "buzzy".

Guitar amps don't have tweeters so a lot of the high end created by distortion isn't heard, the speakers don't even reproduce it.

Yes, it WILL kill your tweeter. It sounds great but I've killed two tweeters this way.

Can it be damaged even if the tweeter is turned off?
