An old HS buddy of mine has a company that makes pavers for the backyard/patio application. He has some patents on a few proprietary shapes they designed. A few months ago a group of us did some charity work and he donated the materials and it came out so nice I decided to try it with a small space in my yard. I'm about halfway through it. I like the way it's turning out. Whaddya think?

Sweet! By "Duke City" do you mean Durham? I may have to get up with your buddy.

The pavers come in gray and terra cotta, and I purchased in bulk so I get what I get. I don't mind the color change much at all. YMMV.

'Duke City' is what the locals use for Albuquerque. Something about it being named for a duke from Spain.

I do like the squiggly edges. Seems a lot easier than trying to make the runs perfectly parallel to an existing straight edge.

  6. Very nice. Love the shapes.

Love the look especially the random grey ones. Breaks up the look in a good way.

People are putting patents on shapes?

In a way, I guess. I'm not sure of how the patent (pending) reads, but it's for the way the pavers fit together. For this particular shape, there are three sizes, small medium and large. All three can be used alone, or in any combination with the others. I chose a single size for cost and weight, these are the small ones. So in a sense, I suppose, you're right, it's the shape of the three edges, where they will always fit.

  10. Looks nice! I like it. I want to put a patio in my backyard, and I'm pondering doing it myself, but I will probably just pay someone to do it. I don't want it to look like amateur hour.

I would be interested in making a walkway in my backyard with them. How do I get them in Washington State? The walkway would be about 20' long and about 2' wide. No preference on size of the blocks, but I like the gray better.

    Did you move back?

I'm not sure, but I think he has a distribution deal with Lowe's or Home Depot and they may be available there. I know he does with a couple of other patio paver shapes, but these I can't say, but will ask him. He lives close to our community garden.

We are moving back the end of September. The wife and I are already lining up some projects. I'll check the local HD and Lowes when we get there. Thanks for the pics and info. If you hear any different about HD/Lowes, let me know please.
