I am working away from home now, I didn't have any bass with me.
So I was looking for a cheap MM-J config bass for practice.
After some research I am set on a Lakland Skyline 44-02.

Couldn't find any good deal locally, instead a 2012 Sandberg TM-4 soft relic custom pop up. It's a MM-J bass! great, seller ask for $1,200. It's way out of my budget but I think, hell if he could knock off another 100 I will take it. Without too much thought the seller agrees.
    So I got the deal.

Right after I paid and waiting for the Sandberg arrive, someone locally send me an offer for his Lakland Skyline SK-4DX. Too bad I already bought a Sandberg but the seller say he would let it go for $300. I mean $300 for a Lakland Skyline? How can you pass that deal?!

So now I went from zero bass with me to 2 awesome basses with me now.

TLDR: Dude got two basses out of nowhere, became a happy man.

Congrats! Wow, that's a screaming deal on the 44-02, they usually go for 3X that used.

    Thanks GregC, because it's not a 44-02
It's a Japanese Market SK-4DX. Still very good deal though!

There ain't much, if anything that separates those basses from the Skylines made for the US market... in fact, their relative rarity here makes them a little cooler IMHO.

Actually, quite a bit more difference between Skyline for rest of the world
Japanese Shoreline = Skyline export version

    Japanese Skyline however
    1. Use Duncan Design pups instead of Barts
    2. Preamp uses ESP ME-3 instead of Lakland LH-3
    3. Doesn't have titanium reinforced neck
    4. Made in China
    5. Alder Body instead of Ash

That's about it. Nevertheless the bass is pretty good for the price.

    Technically, yes there are differences...

The only US market Skylines that have reinforced necks are the 5 string models and those use graphite rods. Also the xx-02 instruments that yours is similar to do not use Bartolini, they too use Lakland pickups. The Lakland electronics are good but I would bet that the electronics in your bass would give them a run for the money.

Lastly neither the China/Indonesia nor the Alder/Ash differences would be considered a downgrade at all IMHO.

Thank you for school me on the details Double E.
Yeah I don't think that's a downgrade at all and the bass is good.

No problem...I just can't believe I misspelled Lakland twice in my post!
