Do All Stingrays (Sterlings) Rattle?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by pkeeg, Oct 31, 2000.

  1. I own a Stingray 5 and love it. Is it true that all Stingrays (Sterlings) rattle, but I don't mean buzz, thats different. It seems more noticeable with new strings. It dosen't worry me, I'm just wondering. Thanks.

WHen I bought mine the vender offered to lower the action by installing a shim to change the neck angle. It does rattle a bit but it plays really well. This may be drastic or unrecommended: I dont care it works for me. Also if you practice without an amp then it will rattle.

  3. You mean that trademark "rattle" when you play the thing (think: Tony Levin's sound on King Crimson's Absent Lovers)? That's from the treble control and the extremely hot preamp that is probably overdriving the front end of your amp.
