  1. Hi all, am toying with the idea of putting a mute on my Jazz and was wondering if anyone knows if the replacement pieces have them. Also does the bridge cover for a Precision make any difference to the tone? I read somewhere that it does have an affect on the magnets of the pickup, and that is why the cover was used by Leo... Before I go out and buy thes for my axes, I thought I would ask you

    Tanks!

  2. not the pickup cover, but the actual ashtray- metal thingy  sorry for the technical jargon.

I don't know what anyone elses take on this will be but it seems very unlikely the bridge cover could have any effect on the sound, especially being so far from the pickup.

Did you mean the pickup cover?

If so, I still doubt it.

I used to have a Jazz bridge cover and a Precision pickup cover on my old beat up Mustang because I thought it looked cool!
Not sure if it did, but I thought it did! :p

He's referring to the way some of the old bridge covers had mutes on the underside to deaden the string vibration, making a more URB-like thump.

I have not seen any aftermarket bridge covers with the mutes in a very long time. I think the last one I saw was in the early '80's.

I was thinking of putting a bridge cover on my Mustang but wasn't sure how it would work or if it would work. Do you have any additional info you could give me? Thanks!
