Do flatwounds sound good with overdive or distortion?

  1. I am thinking to change my p bass strings for flatwounds, will distorsion sound good??

    In my experience, no. It'll probably give ya a really dull sounding distortion.

    Depends on your definition of good. If by good, you mean the modern grindy sound with a lot of trebly ring, nope. If by good, you mean a big fat sound with more bass response and less attack, then yes, it will sound good.

    Think of the difference between being stabbed to death and being bludgeoned to death. Distorted bass with rounds is being stabbed. With flats it's being bludgeoned.

    I have some knowledge about this oddly enough... A fretless with flatwounds and balls to the wall distortion sounds devastating

    The bass player from Cephalic Carnage does this.
