Do tapewounds and frets mix??

I've read lots about nylon wrapped tapewounds for fretless basses, but nothing about them on fretted necks. Will the frets shorten the life? Are they designed exclusively for fretless basses? Any fretted tapewounder users out there?

I have known several players over the years that used tapewounds on a fretted.

It does shorten the life of the strings. Instead of lasting forever, they last 2 or 3 years.

I've got tapewounds on my fretted. Same set for about a year now. Works quite well, actually -- no different than using any other strings.

I use flatwounds for all of my basses. Two of them I use the black tapewound. Like Embellisher, I have two "stealth basses" that have a black satin finish. Looks cool. Used flatwounds/tapewounds forever. So how much longer they last I don't know. I do have four sets of never used roundwounds though.
