...to play your instrument in? For me, it used to be the living room in front of the window. But now the new addition has opened up alot more space. I am liking the new dining room with hardwood floors and plaster walls, the echo coming off the walls from any instrument I play in this room is great. That 'slap-back' natural echo effect.
same here, I dont plug in when not at practice or a show. I just play anywhere I left my bass last and if it travels to a new room, then so be it.
Personally, I prefer practicing in larger, more open spaces -- preferably windows, if not outside, though that's generally not feasible. T'is why I loved jazz camp so much -- everything was a wide-open space! Nowadays, when I actually practice electric, I do it in my room, just 'cause that's where my amp is. With DB, it's usually in my room or the living room, which is significantly larger and has a huge window.
I play in this place where the sun never shines Play in this place where the shadows run from themselves
I only play in my computer room, where my basses and my practice amp are. I occasionally take it to my bedroom and play there. This thread is actually encouraging me to take it elsewhere and see if it changes anything. I'm sure it'll be a nice change to play somewhere else, or even outside (but not in this weather!).
IMO, different location makes a big difference. For instance, I hate playing DB in small spaces. Can't stand it. Either way, I prefer natural light (in general, but also especially when playing music.) I didn't realize how much of a change it induced until after I read this article and actually tried doing what it said.
My bass is in my basement along with my amp and my [email protected] drumset. It's where we practice. Too bad the basement is very far away from my room and I'm lazy. I need an elevator.
in the library, with a candle stick. seriously though? i play all over my house, in my den/bedroom (don't sleep on a bed anymore), in the guest room, in front of the fire place. (my parents and I just rearranged the living room near the fire place and it feels great to play there now) the bathroom, my old room, the garage, and mostly my van and band practice area. (the van has a power inverter in it now, which may end up being upgraded from 200 watts to 400 or 750 watts)
my bedroom definately...its probably the amp just being great but I just love the tone of it in my bedroom - it just doesn't sound QUITE as good anywhere else somehow...
