On my Ice cream sundae? Do any UK TB'ers remember Walnut Whips - they all had a walnut on the top!

When I was a kid we used to get Walnuts off a tree that grew in the woods near the local library - nice! ;)

  2. I think it looks mysterious yet beautiful.

  5. yes, i like that a lot. i'm a big fan of relatively unfinished basses - fancy flame maple tops and such don't do a lot for me.

  6. i prefer the second one, first ones a bit dark (might be the lighting), very nice though
i'm also not a fan of overly fancy tops, like FMT's etc

That's beautiful. But 7 strings? I can't play 4, so what am I gonna do with the extra 3?

my top isn't as fancy as the Hannie/KS/Mod, but I'm liking it so far. There's a little flame in it, but it doesn't really show in the pics.

  11. Okay...I'm gonna be the bad guy.

I don't like walnut for tops. It makes the bass look to much like furniture. Not enough going on usually, too dark, and just not visually appealling to me. But just because I think this, does not make it fact.

For the record, I like a light colored body and a dark fretboard. Usually cloud quilted maple, or maybe a nice ash grain. Ebony or rosewood for a fretboard and I'm a happy guy. I only have one bass that has a colored top on it...odd.

    Yep! Especially if they're quilted!

LOVE that Modulus! There was a Q5F around the time that I got my Modulus that had a KILLER walnut top. I wanted to die just looking at it.

Walnut is a GREAT wood for tops if it has flamed, curling, burling, or quilting. Plain it's just that...plain. But with good figuring, there's not much better.
