Do you store you bass in the case or on a stand?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by modulusbassist, Oct 16, 2001.

  1. How do you store your bass? Does it spend more time on a guitar stand or in the case?

Which is better? Store in a case or let it out on a stand?
  2. Stands are more convienient(sp?) but hard shell cases are the safest. No contest.
  3. when i'm practicing and i have to put it down real quick, it goes on the stand...but otherwise it goes in the case.

I keep it in the case or gig bag man is best for protection from accident and any elements, heat, cold himidity ect.
  5. When I am at home, I leave it on the stand.

because I feel that it needs to breath...

seriously, if I remember correctly, I have read it some where that it is better to leave it on a stand.
    I may be wrong.

I believe that I have heard the same thing, or something similar. i heard something to the effect that it is good for the neck, as far as warping goes, to keep it on a stand so that there is pressure on the neck. I keep my bass on a stand in my room, but when I move it to a gig or whatever it goes in its gig bag, and if I am taking on an extended trip I put it in the flight case.

I store mine in an airtight vault at the bank.

Stand, mostly out of convience. And lack of a Hardshell. But, at home, I'd still keep it on the stand.

its mainly in the case / gigbag. i dont use my stand very often, i have been recently but most of the time the case is where you will find it*.

*except for when im playing of course. :)

I have 9 I keep a few out on stands in my rehearsal room, with the rest in their HSC.

If I'm not gonna play one for any length of time it goes in it's case. At the very least it keeps the dust from collecting.

At gigs , they stay out on stands onstage.

The cases stay uprite in my Bass Closet.

    Seven nice basses,
    with bright shining faces,
    (No Ken Lawrence Brases),
    All in their cases,
    Unless put through their paces.
  16. Horror story: I had a 31" tv knocked over onto 1 of my guitars once while it was on a stand. Moral of the story, All guitars and basses stay in their hard cases whenever they are idle, period.
  17. I reckon I treat my bass like a fine side arm, the case is it's holster. It never comes out of the holster unless it's being used. When it uses the Hamilton stand, it hangs by the neck.

I made hangars for my instruments that hang them from their necks like in a music store. I hope I am not hurting them.... I like to have them easily at hand, and they look great. I'm not much of an interior decorator....

Typically the bass de jour is on a stand, the others in cases.

With toddlers and a huge dog runnin' around, the case is safest.

I keep 'em all out on a rockstand. I play every day, and I like to mix up what I'm playing on so I get an even amount of time on all 3 basses over the course of a week. Space used to be a problem, but with the rockstand, they all fit (even a guest guitar) in one tiny lil' space, so I'm perfectly happy with the arrangement:

I have a closet full of cases, too, but they only get used when I play out or if I go on vacation.
