Documentaries On Bassists?

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by thebbconspiracy, Aug 6, 2012.

  1. IS there any docs on bassists? I see them all the time for guitarists, singers, and drummers, but never for a bassist who JUST played bass. I mean, there is the JAE one, but besides that one, do any of you know of any good docs on our brethren?

The words of Rodney Dangerfield, "No respect, no respect at all." Echo well for us bassist, don't they?

Charles Mingus - Triumph of the Underdog (1998)

There is also Thomas Reichman's 1968 documentary on Mingus which is also good (and shares some of the same footage as the newer documentary):

Another Mingus documentary is Weird Nightmare, directed by Ray Davies of the Kinks. Can be seen here on YT (in 9 parts):

There are also two documentaries on John Entwistle, Is There Life After The Who?

    and, An Ox's Tale

"New York Doll." Very moving story (and very sad) about Authur "Killer" Kane.
  8. +1

If you play bass and you haven't seen this, then you HAVE to see this! :hyper:

Cool! Doesn't RT have Jaco's jazz bass?

It seems weird because RT is a huge Jaco fan but he doesn't really play anything like Jaco - not in ST, IG or Metallica. Is there something I haven't heard by RT that shows Jaco's influence?

You don't hear Trujillo sounding like Jaco because it would sound terrible in that context. Funky 16ths in Metallica...? And yes he does have the bass of doom, although it is still technically owned by the family he just gets to keep it.

And what is the JAE documentary?
