Does anybody use seperate power amp and preamp?

I'm an EB player and I just purchased my first URB. From what I'm reading it seems very hard to have a rig that will satisfy URB and EB. Would a seperate power amp and preamp be more flexible?

I've read alot about the AI Clarus, and while it would be perfectly loud enough for URB, it may not have the wattage I would need to keep up with a spirited drummer. I've had the opportunity to hear a Bergantino 1-12 powered by a Stewart Power amp and Yamaha preamp at a local store. While the Yamaha preamp added too much color to the URB sound, The idea of a natural sounding preamp and power amp seems like a flexible solution. Any suggestions?

P.S. That Bergantino sure sounded sweet with the URB and EB.
