Does anyone else here worship at the alter of Skaggs (Boz)?

This guy is truly one of the most underrated artists ever! With songs like "Miss Sun" & "Lowdown", how can you not like him?

How 'bout "Jojo" & "Harbour Lights"?
The stuff I'm familiar with is very well-crafted & very well-played Pop.
...guess that happens when you surround yourself with cream-of-crop studio personnel(ala SD).

    On a tangent-
You just reminded me that I have forgotten about Les Dudek's Say No More album(w/ Tony Williams, Rainey, Pops Popwell, etc). I had told myself I was gonna pick that one up for Xmas. Oh well...

"JoJo" reminds me of something that SD would do.

BTW, could a mod put this in "Recordings"? I put it here by accident.

I was somewhat amazed by "You Got Some Imagination" on his "Middle Man" album.

I never heard him belt like that before/since and Lukather's guitar just blasts. I once used the song to test new stero speakers I was buying.

"Dirty Lowdown" is my favorite Boz Skaggs song. I do agree he is underrated. I love the character of his voice.

I think a guitarist or bassist for Rob Zombie is named Skaggz or something to that effect. I saw this thread and was like... Ughhh n00b. Then I saw woodchuck started it and became curious.

  9. Definitely underrated. Lowdown and Lido Shuffle being some kickass tunes.

My drummer is a huge Boz fan. We're doing:
    "Sick and Tired"
"Drowning in the Sea of Love"
"It All Went Down the Drain"

Gotta admit, it's tasty stuff, and I've always thought that the tone of "Lido Shuffle" was top-notch.

I had the fortune of playing for someone that did covers of "Lowdown" and "Breakdown Up Ahead". The latter having a cool Motown feel to it.

  13. Steve Miller Band has not been the same since he left.

Check out "Dime A Dance Romance" off of Sailor.

Wasn't Silk Degrees, like, the first Toto album.
    ;)

"Lowdown" was supposed to be a Toto tune; I'll dig out the Porcaro interview in Modern Drummer to prove it!
    ;)

Now that I think about it, "Jo Jo" really sounds like a Toto song. Like "Georgy Porgy".

  18. Saw Boz live in 1979, thought his band was amazing. About two years later was at another concert and realized that the band I was seeing were the same guys with Boz a few years earlier. It was Toto, with Atlanta Rhythm Section, both opening acts for (get ready), Molly Hatchet. I left right after Hatchet opened with "Flirting with Disaster", other than that song, didn't care for them. Toto and ARS though, followed them and still own everything they both recorded. That was a great show.

I saw Boz on that Hard Rock Live show on VH1. He had a slamming bassist! He was putting extra muted plucks in "Lowdown". The best rendition of that song that I've ever heard.
