Does anyone else NOT get nervous before a gig?

  1. Whenever I'm about to play, I get more excited then anything. Sure, there's the fear in the back of my mind that somethings going to screw up, but its never really bothered me. I'm not really an outgoing person or anything, its just that I've never really experienced stage fright.

    Anyone else feel the same?

I don't think I'm nervous BEFORE the gig, but as soon as I get on stage my hands start to shiver and my mouth gets all dry and funny. Does that count?

I'm probably as NOT nervous as possible before you enter the realm of mental disorders. I really look forward to it, it's like Christmas morning as a kid.

  4. Hmmm...well, I'm with Oyster there, only my hand's don't shiver, and my mouth doesn't go dry. I just get a big adrenaline rush from being nervous, even if it's just a little bit. Plug in, goof around for the (very quick and usually bad) sound check, and once I play my first note in our first song...it all just goes away. :D

I've always found i play better with a little pre-gig jitters. Adrenaline buzz gets things going, I guess.

I am not nervous about my playing at all... A little of the pre-gig adrenaline rush, but like Eli, I find that to be beneficial. It's wondering if the flake-out drummer is going to show up or not that tends to freak me out!!!

  7. I get a huge rush while playing. Before I gig, sure I get a some last minute thoughts that something bad might happen, but usually during the middle of the first song I'll be all into it.

I've never really been nervous. I'm usually on edge, especially when the bands before mine are playing, but I can't say I've ever been really nervous before a gig. Having said that, I get a little knot in my stomach in the second or so while the drummer counts in the first song, but that's about it.

It really depends for me. If it's a gig that I play regularly with songs that I know well, I am not going to be nervous about it.

If it's a one-off jazz gig playing with great musicians that I don't really know, playing songs that are difficult, no matter how many times I practise, I get nervous...

  10. I get so worked up to the point i nearly throw up. Its goo because it means i switched on and ready cause of all that adrenalin.

Although the gig before last, i was so calm it was disturbing. The whole band was, and boy was it a bomb night. Drummer missed cues :)rolleyes: ), i just didn't get that groove, guitarist dropped his guitar during change overs etc.

    Nerves is good.

I have'nt gotten nervouse at a gig in a very, very long time. I'm pretty much like alot of the guys here when I say that I look forward to it. Gig time is like Christmas, New Years, and a little Easter all rolled togeather. :D

I use to have a big problem with nerves
before a gig. ( if it was a big gig I'd get
    butterflies weeks before the gig).
    Unfortunately I overcame my nerves.
I say unfortunately because I miss
the nervous excitement.I will always love
to gig, but there is nothing like pre-gig
    butterflies.

I probly would but me and the guitarist have a few drinks before our gigs.
The drummer can't else he ****s up and the vocalist has to sing so it helps him not to drink.
But everyone reckons we put on a hell of a show cos ya loosen up a bit and don't care so much about what the audience think about the way you move and my playing is always heaps smoother too.

Court jester is wearing his lucky rocketship underpants, but no worries, I've got my lucky beer mug boxers on, sir.
Still waiting for authorization to make the shot, over.

  18. I thought I was the only one! I've never been nervous before playing, I cant wait to get out there. I'd be more nervous if I was the singer, or even lead guitarist, but I dont worry in the slightest. I do have a couple of drinks usually before playing, but that is to make me limbre up and put me in the mood, not for nerves or anything like that. Guess I just love being up there in the spot light, its just so darn cool

  19. I never get nervous before a gig, although I have experienced "flop sweat" during shows when the band isn't going over with the crowd or we aren't playing particularly well as a group. Fortunately, I guess, I don't dwell on such possibilities before the show, so I'm not prone to jitters.
