I play bass. I'm in Portland, Oregon. I'm currently in a band but some of the members are getting busy with side projects and it's not taking up as much time as I would hope. I would like to start another band if I can find the players. I have been throwing the idea around in my head of starting a two-bass guitar band. I've been into Cop Shoot Cop for a while and recently I started listening to Chicago-area band Bear Claw, which is a two-bass three-piece. It has given me the desire to try something different. Ideally, I'd like to find another bass player and a drummer and go from there. Maybe eventually add another instrument or two, such as a keyboard or saxophone. Perhaps a two-piece horn section. No matter what, it must rock. The sound I'm imagining is along the lines of the bands I mentioned before, Cop Shoot Cop and Bear Claw, but I'd also like to keep in mind guitarless, one-bass bands like Death from Above 1979, Lightning Bolt and the French band Gatechien. I'm also very much into the Jesus Lizard as a bass tone. I've been listening to a little Nels Cline lately, which I'm pretty sure has no bass at all, but its good inspiration. If this sounds interesting to anyone in the Portland area, please let me know. And myspace/youtube search any of the bands I've listed above if you're not familiar with them. I'm mainly looking to make a project that is unique, will stand out, hit hard and have lots of guts.
