Is it a long process to become a dealer?

    No.

Just call the String Company, they will point you to a distributor or sell direct.

But.. you gotta start selling. The prices get lower because of volume sales.

My case is a little easier cuz Im out of the U.S. and I just found the latin distributors to get my strings from.

Basscentral.com has a good "String Club" as they call it. Strings are 50% off list price. I've had great luck with them & the guys down there are a pleasure to deal with.
