I was just wondering if anybody here owns or has owned a true Fender '51 P-bass. If so, what kind of shape was it in and how did it play?

Nope. The closest I came was a '59 and it played like a dream.

I've played a few. Played ok, sounded nice, but not worth the price tag unless you're buying for investment/collectors item only.

How much did they want and what kind of shape was it in?

What did it sound like compared to a P w/ split pickups? I've alwayed wondered about this. Does it have the P thump?

Sorry to hijack your thread. :)

Around $8000 at the time, and it was in good shape. That was a few years ago - I'm sure that the price has gone way up since then.
