I just love the look and feel of a well worn bass. You know, they sound awesome but look like been in a couple of fights. I'd love to see some pics. Later Joe

I saw a guy with a '66 Jazz he had bought brand new in 67 or 68 & played to death & beyond. Looked like it had been dragged behind a truck- 1/4" deep divots where he put his thumb for 30+ years. The sad part is the poor guy had absolutely no timing...
Oh, well- I've got no pictures of my 60 year old amateurishly stripped (& played) standup, sorry.

I did for a really long time. It was an early 80's Fender '57 R.I. P-Bass with a 2-color sunburst. I replaced the gold anodized aluminum pickguard; I first went with white, then tort-shell. I played that crap out of that bass! I sold it to a really good friend a couple of years ago. It's a backup to his pre-EB StingRay  . It's finish was wearing off nicely. It also had some cool scars from all the years of gigging. I miss it, but it's in great hands.

It sounds weird; I don't mind scars and wear on my Fenders, but I'm really anal with the rest of my basses. But if you play any instrument long enough it gets 'relic'd' eventually.

    Jaco anyone?

but really, i have a (well USED to have a) 76' jazz and the thing was beat to a pulp (not literally). i had to duct tape most of the upper horn so it wouldn't snap, put glue in the strap button holes so they wouldn't come out and bassically duct tape the bridge down so it wouldn't pop out... what a POS that was, but oh well it got me thru many years of learning :)
  7. There's this Fender bass that Adam Clayton has used over the last few years... there are photos from the 90s where the paint is all effed up and such...

Then I saw the "Vertigo" video and it looks like it's the same bass... only almost all of the paint is gone now.

Of course, there are the punk basses, too...

my 78' musicmaster hasn't been beat up by someone, it's just that the paint is crap. It's suppose to be black but it is sort of a navy color. The paint is cracking and falling off on the sides. (The neck is terrific though) But that's why I bought it instead of a cleaner one. I'll post pictures if I can find some good ones.

I have a 79 P-Bass that has the distinctive marks of being used for bb gun target practice. No kidding! If you want to see a beater, look at the pics of Tommy Shannon's jazz bass in the new issue of Bass Guitar magazine. It looks like a bad set of tobacco-stained dentures. Muy mojo!

I have a REAL Geddy Lee '73 Fender Jazz that's somewhat worn. Had a '71 Jazz Bass for a while that was beat sunburst, it looked really cool but the neck wasn't straight and was a pain to play. A straight neck on an old Fender is hard to find.
