    Protect it from what?

Going wireless is like a long distance isolating transformer... It would also protect you from electric shock if something were to go very wrong within your gear. Plus it's fun to go for a long walk when you're playing...

  3. Protect my gear from frying,is a surge protector enough?

the functions of a transformer include isolation and voltage change - -

isolation would help with power line surges and also maybe some of that nasty, dirty, noisy power that some AC circuits infiltrate into your amps and out your speakers.
