Does it look like this neck has some figuring in it to you?

I just bought this fretless Warmoth neck on Ebay:

    ScreenShot001-1.

It's from 1986 but it sure looks like it's in good shape!

Does the maple look figured to you?
    ScreenShot002-1.
    ScreenShot004-1.
    ScreenShot003-1.

    Nice thick ebony fretboard!
    ScreenShot005-2.

It's nice but I wouldn't call it figured. I like the aged look of the wood.

This is my Warmoth flame maple neck with an ebony fingerboard:
    DSCN0944.
    DSCN0921.
    DSCN0943.

    Nice!

This neck looks aged because it is aged - 24 years! :bassist:

Looks like some birdseye in there. I vote figured.

I almost didn't go for it but Warmoth fretless neck with ebony board and bone nut for $125? No brainer.

Yeah... I think it's semi-birdseye (so to speak).

The necks on the RB5's I used to own were semi-flame.

    I believe it's a J - that's how it was advertised.

I don't see how this neck could be considered figured.

I bought a really nice MIM Jazz fretless and then proceeded to replace almost everything. The pickups are Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pups, the bridge is an aluminum Hipshot A, the tuners are now Hipshot Ultralites, I installed an Audere JZ5D preamp, and now I'm replacing the rosewood fretboard neck with this ebony fretboard neck.

    Right now it's this color:
    101_0046.

but I'm going to remove the poly finish and refinish it in nitro in this color:
    XJ_1T_5_String_Vintage_White_J090_1.

with matching headstock and tort guard.

I'm enjoying making it what I want it to be.

Sounds cool, but you'll cover up the headstock!

So much for the figuring. :scowl:

I don't really think there's much figuring anyway. I'm going to have two necks for this bass (fretted maple and fretless ebony) and I'm going to paint both headstocks the same color. That way I can apply my own custom headstock decal. I think I want to eventually make my own basses and this is kind of my test case.

    I'm all for removing/covering that decal! :)
