since we would theoretically choose an avatar based on our own sense of tastes, senses of humor or whatever, it does represent at least part of who we are. I'm not sure that anyone's avatar would come close to ever summing them up completely but in as far as being a little glimpse into someone's quirkiness, seriousness, depth..etc, yeah kinda sorta.
