Does this fingerboard entice or deter you?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by SleepyShark, Sep 9, 2019.

  1. That fingerboard makes we want the thing even more!

  2. I'd have no problem buying that if it plays well.

  3. Ew. No way. I wouldn't buy it no matter how well it plays.

    See poll.

Just curious as to the reception here. Going to withhold my opinion.

Fender American Elite Jazz as seen on an online retailer. Ebony fingerboard.

    It looks like wood. ;)

Truthfully, figured ebony means it wasn't dyed, so that's usually a plus for me.
That said, this, while not objectionable, is not one of my favorite examples of figured ebony...

  3. Well, I'm not anal-retentive about fingerboard aesthetics, but of all the "flaws" I've seen, that qualifies as one very happy accident in my book. Almost looks intentional. If it's a player, I'd have no problem with that.

My Elite fiver has a stripe on the fingerboard that's not quite that large but it's noticeable. I love it.

Looks great on that particular bass. I’ve seen some sunburnt models with that type of figuring in the ebony and it looks beautiful !!
  10. Looks nice!

    Doesn't do anything for me.
In fact I believe it'd drive me mad having what looks like an unfinished neck.
Also it's got blocks which I dislike.
  12. While I don't particularly like the wood colouring on the fingerboard, It looks like a lovely bass.

So far I've never owned a bass with blocks. They don't put me off but the grey body would!

It's funny how people today want cookie-cutter things that look mass produced.

  19. I'd pass. Esthetics aren't everything, but it's still something I consider if I'm spending serious money on a bass.
