I feel like with "jazz, blues and soul" they were saying "all Black music that isn't rap or pop" but somehow missed R&B entirely. Glaring implicit bias, and a total lack of self-awareness.

Well, honestly nothing in the original article referenced indicates this is a proper study. The egghead Psych Department types I have known would laugh this off. I suspect you are correct in questioning the motive of this "study". It looks like the work of a consulting firm and pigeon holing is exactly what they are going for. The OP used the term "Pop-Psychology" to describe the source. I think that is very telling.

Difficult for me, as I listen to a lot of different genres. I'm not a huge fan of classical, country or rap, but there is still a bit of each in my music library. My most preferred style is rock and their description is probably pretty close.

But let's say there is a correlation between musical taste and personality type. Which influences the other? Does a particular personality draw you towards certain types of music, or does listening to one type of music develop your personality in a certain way?

LOL.

I recently had a tooth extraction postponed by the dentist because my blood pressure was high when they took it just before starting surgery. The sent me to my cardiologist to have me cleared for the extraction.

I went to my cardiologist and told him what happened and he laughed heartily saying, "The dentist is not where you go to have your blood pressure checked." With that I was approved and all went well the next time.

Could not be more wrong. I listen to mostly jazz. I only leave the house for work (alone in an office)or when otherwise necessary.I do my best to avoid other members of the household when at home. I am not creative at all. A little less than average intelligence.

There have been other studies more focused on musical taste and it's correlation to political affiliation. I can't find the study but there were definite correlations found. I believe the funding came from a marketing firm so there was an interest in using these studies to find money for political candidates. I cannot remember too much else but I do remember a little. I am not posting any results here due to not wanting to ruffle anyone's political feathers but this study is out there for those who wish to find it. So at least in the arena of political preference, there does seem to be some correlation between that and musical preference, but we must always guard against drawing too many conclusions since correlation does not automatically mean that there is causation.
