I just picked this guy up yesterday for a deal I couldnt pass up! I havent had too much time to play with it and it is WORLDS different than my other head (SWR 750x) but so far Im really diggin it. Im loving the gritty pick tone! I had a show last night and it was sounding great with my two SWR Goliath IIIs! All the band members commented on how much they liked it.

Id really love to hear anything you guys have to say about this head (Classic/Anniversery). What experiences youve had, what to expect from it, favorite eq settings, favorite tubes, ANYTHING. Thanks guys!

To my understanding they are the same head. I could be wrong here but I think the only differences are cosmetic. Im sure someone else will be more helpful than I.

I endorse & use Tech 21 pedals, Eminence loaded cabs, EMG pickups, Jim Dunlop picks & Ernie Ball Strings, BC Rich Basses.
You understood correctly, but the AV looks way cooler than the CL. ;) I am not sure if the settings in the pic are the settings you are using, but if you instead crank the master volume & use the gain as a level control, you will get more of that power tube growl SVTs are famous for.

6. thanks for the tip on the AV and CL being the same except for cosmetics, and i to agree the AV looks much more killer.

7. Definatly!

Yeah, one other thing is tho, the AV is more expensive :(

Well, mine is a CL. I like the midrange control @ 1 or 2 to give my sound a pronounced honk that balances out the treblish setting of my SVT4Pro (effects). I also run the gain dimed and use the master as my volume control. I should try doing the opposite.

Thats the thing...I got my AV for way cheaper than I would have ever even gotten a CL for! :)

I tried to control the volume with my gain but I wasnt getting as much grit. It seems like id really need to crank the gain with volume full on and the walls are already shaking at this point. Ive still got lots of playing around to do. Id still love to hear any advice or recommendations from anyone. Im liking it more and more as I play.

The thing with tube amps is they keep on giving usable sound way past the factory power specs. You shouldn't be able to dime BOTH gain and master @ home OMG. That's unbelievably LOUD!

LOL! No, I didnt have BOTH cranked. I would have blown my house apart! This thing is incredibly LOUD! I was saying that with my volume all the way up and using the gain as the master volume I wasnt getting as much grit without reaching devastating volumes.

A roadcase is indeed next. That was actually a question I had: Is there anyone out there that has any idea where to get a nice case with any rackspaces in it? Or any other case recommendations in genral. Thanks!

13. Yeah you usually need to get pretty loud, i know i do with my SVT-II, but thats becase thats old skool, no wussie gain knob there :p
