Rice University is in Houston and its my understanding that they have a very good music school. You might want to call their bass professor and see if he takes on private students or if he can recommend someone for you.

    My $.02.

Which is like, a suburb of Houston? Or more like a neighborhood?

I actually thought it would only take 3 or 4 hours to drive from NYC to Pittsburgh. You ever meet my girlfriend, ask her about our trip to Fallingwater...

Sort of. It's not unheard of people from Houston going to Dallas for lunch or vice versa. I guess it's about a 4 hour drive (and about 1 curve in the road).

Dennis Whittaker, Paul Ellison or Andrew Moritz are all in the Houston area and are good teachers. I take from Moritz myself, but if your in Houston, Ellison or Whittaker might be closer(I live in Sugar Land).

Sugar Land is great, but there is nowhere to play. Always gotta drag myself into downtowns terrible streets.
