I was classically trained on db and played in classical orchestras and jazz big bands, trios, etc when I was a teenager into my twenties

I then changed over to bass guitar and sold my db (mistake!), then gave up completely

Recently I have started playing bass guitar and have amased a small collection of these including a fretless 5 string.

Now I have a yearning to play double bass in a small jazz outfit (trio/quartet/etc)

I've forgotten what little I ever new about double bass.

What should I look out for?

I,ve been offerred a mid 50's double bass, round back, ebony fingerboard and tailpiece, 3/4 size for £500 (about $750). The seller says that it has a repaired headstock and the bass has the usual scratches, dings, etc.

Is this a good but for me?

If I want to play jazz, what should I look out for.

Any and all (polite) suggestions appreciated
