Double Bass Slapping/Percussion Made With Bass Body While Playing?

    I think it only is nice when you combine it with some nice left hand tones/grooves. Using the bass only as a percussion instrument like that clip is too limited (for me).
    Check out Avishai Cohen, he does some great things with this approach.

    Avishai says he got that from the great Cachao.

    L'Orchestre de Contrebasses has a piece called Bass Bass Bass that uses this as well.

    Many pieces written by contemporary composers utilize percussive techniques all over the instrument.

    Try it while sitting in on another cat's bass.... not so smart.
  4. Mingus did it, Turetzky did it. Surprisingly I don't use it much, I use plastic brushed, the bow and mallets on the body but not the hand-drum thing much.
