A coworker is selling his cheapo 6-string fretless: Douglas WOB 826 6 String Active Fretless Bass - musical instruments... I need another bass guitar like I need a hole in the head, but it would be a super cheap way to add a sixer to the mix, and it's fretless, which I prefer. I'm surprised nothing comes up when searching TB for this; either it's garbage, or nobody's bought these off Rondo for grins?
I think Douglas is a bit of a sleeper brand. That's a great price for a decent chunk of wood 'n wires!
It's another one of those faceless 'store brands' made who-knows-where in the Far East. But, if you want to check out 6 strings and fretless, you'll never have a cheaper chance than this. I'd make sure the electronics are OK and the setup/truss rod is OK, no real mechanical issues: For that cheap, you'd have to have to spend a couple hundred bucks to make it work. $140? Hell, two or three six-string sets comes to more than that.
Yeah it's like buying an expensive set of used strings with a bass attached. If I get it, it'll be the second bass I've bought for less than a new set of strings on the Kay.
I had one, got it for next to nothing, I paid too much. What a horrible piece of garbage, the neck was like rubber. Traded it to guy for a pack of gum.
Ha, well, it's mine now, neck is solid and straight with proper relief, and fingerboard has no noticeable high spots. NBD post here --> NBD: cheapo fretless 6-string
