Hi, I'm wondering what you would recommend for a free, downloadable C++ compiler.
Check out the GNU site. A link to the compilers page... http://www.gnu.org/directory/devel/compilers/
The one you want is called "g++".
Wow, thanks for asking this... I have to find one too to make my programming class a bit easier.
Thanks for the link. Any info on how to open .gz files?
This is truly interesting. Why on earth is it double-zipped? And in such odd formats?? A .tar within a .gz??? weirdness.
Crap! I just realized something. This program is akin to having an unzip utility installer in the .zip format-you need a compiler to compile the compiler. Even weirder than the double-zip thingy.
Does anyone know of any pre-compiled compilers?
get the Borland compiler.
it's downloadable from www.borland.com. IIRC, it's called freecommandlinetools.exe
and the *.tar.gz, is a common compression used for Linux.
EDIT: here is the exact path ftp://ftpd.borland.com/download/bcppbuilder/freecommandLinetools.exe
You could check out DJGPP on http://www.delorie.com. If you need an IDE (= integrated development environment), the one called RHIDE for DJGPP is pretty darn good and quite easy to work with.
