Doyle Bramhall II & Smokestack

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by Bassline1414, Jul 19, 2001.

  1. I heard the song "Green Light Girl" and I thought it was really cool. Kinda reminded me of blues-rock Hendrix style. I was wondering if anyone had picked up the album and their opinions on it. Thanks. :)

I haven't heard it, but I have read a bunch about DB recently. Eric Clapton recruited him to tour.

DB lives here in Austin. He was interviewed in the local weekly. He told a story of Clapton sitting down with him and DB's new album and asking Doyle to show him how he plays all of that weird stuff.

Your comparison to Hendrix is interesting as they both play upside down guitars. However, Doyle plays with the strings in reverse order (like Jimmy Haslip); I do not think Hendrix played like that. In any case, this effects his playing, as witnessed by Clapton's diminshed ability to play similarly on a regular tuning.

    Take care.
