    Is it really? I know he ripped off people on TB and it sucks, but oil companies make multi-billion dollar environmental disasters and they're still in business. Restaurant chains poison hundreds and are still serving up meals. I'm not surprised. It would be nice if he worked off the cabs owed.
  3. Oil companies rip everyone off, the good Dr ripped off musicians. We gotta draw the line somewhere!

    So, since he is still in business on his website and on Reverb, has everyone received their cabs or a refund? Has he squared up with everyone?

    I believe the list above is accurate. Only the 6 names with * have been made whole, and 4 received full or partial refund. I have received neither and I'm guessing the rest will say the same. That's 10/44 if anyone is counting.

    Wow. I sent him a message about his cabs. He gave me the story about having one ready to go to the sprayer. And turn around time of 2 weeks.

    So I asked him flat out about the issues and he claimed it was from 2009, that he has never left the business and that he has made good on every one of those cabs!!

    Yep, once a liar.......

    You forgot waiting on parts. The story goes: your cabinet is "finished", but I'm waiting on parts". It could be drivers, cross-overs, L-pads, whatever. In my case, he threw Eminence under the bus. I called Eminence because Serio's story didn't add up. Eminence told me that Serio had no drivers order in at that time, and hadn't ordered anything in over a year.

    The plus side for ordering is that you now have 180 days to file a PayPal dispute instead of the original 45 days when everything happened. So while it's easy to string a build along for 45 days, it's not easy to do that for 180 days. As long as the payments were through PayPal and not a personal payment, I wouldn't worry about ordering from him today.
  14. I wouldn't worry either. Buy from someone that isn't a crook.

    @Kubicki Fan

    consider me amongst those who was delayed by many weeks, but was made whole only with the involvement of my credit card company's dispute claim service. For some strange reason, the Dr. made good rather than have this purchase reversed. I'd love to know why he did it as there's no apparent rhyme or reason to it that could possibly make sense.

    I'm actually kind of embarrassed by this "good fortune" having learned shortly afterward how deep the deception runs. In fact, it was this episode that had me doing Internet searches for Dr. Bass customer problems, with many hits being returned originating from Talk Bass...and this is how I learned of the forum.

    Had I been a TalkBass forum lurker prior, I never would even considered placing an order with Dr. Bass. To this day I'm shocked at my luck, and just as much bummed by all those who got screwed that were in line before me. I wished the cabs sucked ass...but...they're actually pretty good cabinets that put out a lot of sound.

    I may have a little insight here. First, as you stated, you were able to put pressure on Serio through your credit card company, so that likely helped move your order along. Secondly, I suspect he delivered your order because he could buy off-the-shelf parts for your cabinet. I'm going to take a wild guess that your Dr. Bass cabinet was either single driver 8 ohm or two driver 4 ohm.

    When Serio's troubles started, there were less suitable 4 or 16 ohm drivers available--especially with neo magnets. At the time, custom driver orders through Eminence required OEMs to order 100 to 200 drivers per order. I suspect Serio was able to put in an initial order for custom 10 and 12 inch speakers and fulfill his earlier orders. But once he started having money problems, he just couldn't come up with the cash to put in additional driver orders. So, customer's who needed custom drivers got screwed.

    Yeah his cabinets actually do sound good. I may have continued to use mine if I could have gotten a matching cabinet. I was one of his earlier customers before he started having issues. I received my first order from him although I waited about 4 months for custom 10 inch neo drivers to come in. When I put in my second order for a matching cabinet, I had seen Talk Bass threads that hinted he was having trouble getting drivers, so, I even asked Serio about it. He assured me that he would have no trouble getting drivers--that was a lie. Fortunately, I was able to reverse charges through my credit card company.

    Serio probably could have done well if he just built the cabinets, but let a partner handle all of the money and customer relations.

    Yes, I should have said that I was providing the drivers, and I gave him the specs so that he could make sure his empty 15" boxes were compatible. All he had to do was install the connection plate and deliver the empty boxes, so it was a real easy transaction for him to make good on.
