are these similar to lo riders in sound?
No! They have a pillowy attack and are a little less trebly but not much.
They are unique and have their own personality. Deep tight lows, rich mids, and clear highs. DR Lo-Riders and High Beams are darker sounding than the color coated strings.
good for slap?
Yea you can slap with them. They are still roundwounds of stainless construction. The coating tames them a tad but not much.
I jist strung up my Reverend (Areo Type 1, PJ pickups) with the BB's and I like them. Real nice full tone for a round wound but with a retrained high end. I wouldn't choose them as a slap string specifically though. Not quite the zing I want. For that - Thomastic Super Alloy's do it for me.
I'm liking the BB's though. For finger funk and walking they sound really nice. (this from a dedicated D'Addario Chrome & half round; Thomastic flat & SA guy ...)
