One quick question about the Marcus Miller Fat-beams... what separates them DR's other strings? construction, feel, tone... any information on those would be really apreciated.

    thanks

To me they feel alittle more flexible the the Hi Beams and with alittle less top end zing. They sound like smoothed out Hi Beams

I believe Fat Beams are round core (flexible) stainless strings. The Sun Beams are the same thing except with a nickel wrap. I like the Sun Beams the best and generally use them on my basses unless the player requests something different.

thanks for the info, I just might try some on my fretless.

I've tried some Hi-Beams in the past and thought the feel was very nice, the B in particular was really smooth. I tone didn't impress me as much though... might have better luck with the fat-Beams! :)

    thanks

If you don't mind one person's opinion, check my review of them in Talkbass's "String" reviews. I've used them, as well as other strings, since they appeared on the market in Jan, 2001.

They're one of my all-time faves.
