Hey all! I am wanting to know if DR uses silks on any of their strings. I am wondering this because I recently got a Squirt Classic Vibe 60's Mustang Bass and they make short scale bass strings that are suitable for the string through design. And I like silks on the ends of my bass strings at times on certain basses that I own. I have never tried a set of DR strings, but I have known about them as long as I have been playing (roughly 4 1/2 years), and I have been meaning to try some of their strings. Any response is welcome, thanks! -Wyatt M.

Edit: I meant to say "Squier", not "Squirt". Damn autocorrect.

They have silks on the DR Legends (flatwounds), but otherwise no. They don't use silks.

  4. DR "short scale" = 33.75" in winding length (ball end to taper), which is most other manufacturers' "medium scale" (34"-35.5").

There are other options if you're willing to explore other brands. What specific type of DR strings are you interested in?

I was looking into their Flats & Sunbeams. The classic Mustang pickup is pretty bright, and so I am wanting to take some of the harshness out. I never have liked the stock strings that Squier use due to them being overtly bright. Even though I do use a very bright sound most of the time.... Must be some super harsh frequency in the stock strings that must be causing it.

  6. DR Legend Flats come with gold silk but I'm not even sure if they're available in their "short scale".

You might want to consider Dunlop Flats as an alternative, which now come in "medium scale" 45-105 with black silk and 34" winding length (ball end to silk).

The prices of the Dunlop medium scale has gone up quite a bit due to the Covid. So I'm trying to save some money at the moment. The DR's are pretty cheap though. And apparently their flats are in their 'short scale'.

Thanks for all your replies people! I really love my new Mustang and I just didn't want to damage it at all. Cheers! Also.... I bought a set of medium scale Chromes online yesterday to see how they fair... Then, I think I'll try the Sunbeams and see how they react once I get a feel for the Chromes.
